It’s that time of the year again. Valentine’s Day. A day for love in all forms. However you’ll be celebrating — with a loved one, some friends, or your fabulous self — we hope you’ll be doing it with wine. To help kick off the festivities, here is some sweet Valentine’s Day trivia to enjoy… along with some wine recommendations that we think you’ll fall head over heels for.

1. The oldest valentine on record is 600 years old.

While imprisoned in the Tower of London in 1415, Charles, the Duke of Orleans, wrote a poem to his wife, referring to her as his “Valentine.” For a Valentine’s  Day wine that’s aged well, we recommend our 2019 Pinot Noir Reserve Amphora, which was aged in an ancient vessel (a clay amphora) to enhance fruit components, body and mouthfeel.

2. Roses are the number one flower given on Valentine’s Day.

No surprise here. But do you know how many? The Society of American Florists estimates that 250 million roses are produced for Valentine’s Day each year. Our favorite rose? Our 2020 Brut Rosé. It’s fun, flirty, and has just the palest hint of pink.

3. 145 million Valentine’s Day greeting cards are exchanged in the U.S. every year.

This makes the day of love the second-largest greeting card holiday after Christmas. Want to take your Valentine’s card game to the next level? Deliver it with a bottle of our 2020 Blanc de Blancs. With this true method champenoise sparkling, love will definitely be on your side.

4. Around 65% of American’s believe that Valentine’s Day sweets and packaging should be red and pink…

…according to the National Confectioners Association. For those Americans, can we suggest a bottle of our 2019 Pinot Noir Reserve (very red) or our 2020 Dry Rosé (very pink)?

5. Red really is the color of love.

A psychological study by the University of Rochester showed that both men and women found a person wearing red more attractive than the same person wearing another color. When we think of a romantic red, we think of our 2019 Meritage Reserve. There’s nothing dreamier than a big, bold Bordeaux blend.
